A Fall Foliage Cruise

It’s that special short season when the air is crisp, and the leaves are showing off their splendid fall colors. Although one can explore New England during summer too, it is the foliage time that attracts the most visitors. When it comes to luxury cruising, here too one has a number of choices. My friend Helene and I opted for Silver Whisper, an intimate, all-suite 380-passenger ship sailing from Montreal to New York. The luxurious vessel sails annually on the Fall Foliage cruise on the Saint Lawrence Seaway and docks at ports in Quebec, Nova Scotia, and New England and debarks in New York City.

Along the route, you will see stunning natural beauty blend seamlessly as you cruise the shores of Canada & New England. You can visit the iconic lighthouse at Peggy’s Cove in Halifax, stroll Newport’s famous Cliff Walk, a picturesque 3.5-mile path along a rocky coastline that offers great backyard views of many famous mansions, take a stroll down Boston’s historic Freedom Trail, visit the Portland Museum of Art, and feast on lobster at Gilbert’s. In Quebec City, you can get a taste of France without crossing the Atlantic. A visit to the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Chateau Frontenac offers views of the St. Lawrence River, and the architecture of the old fortified city are not to be missed.

Silversea is passionate about service and is renowned for its innovative culinary excellence. No matter where you dine, you’ll find great diversity and freshness. The Restaurant is an open-seating venue, where you can dine whenever you please, and socialize with your new-found international friends. The Grill is a place where you can cook your own meal, if you wish to do so. It is a casual outdoor venue where your meal is cooked on hot lava stones. If you crave Italian, you will be in seventh heaven while dining at La Terrazza, which serves authentic Italian cuisine. For a taste of France-at-sea, Le Champagne, a Relais & Châteaux restaurant, will provide an extraordinary six-course tasting menu of regionally-inspired dishes complemented by fine wines.
